The Decaf Revolution: The Five Reasons You Should Try It Right Now
Posted on February 27 2025,

At parties, friend hangs, or anything in between, I like to tell people about my famous superpower. What is it? Caffeine just doesn’t seem to affect me! I can drink a cup or two of coffee and go right to sleep as if nothing happened. The funny part is that the response is always a shock, but the reviews on this superpower are mixed.
That’s because so many people want to feel the effects of caffeine so they can function throughout their day. However, a few always wish they could enjoy a cup without jitters or staying up all night. From caffeine sensitivities to health conditions, there are many reasons people want to feel less of a punch from caffeine. That is where decaf makes its grand entrance!
In the last few years, decaf has been on the rise as more people watch their caffeine content daily but desire the robust taste of a familiar sip. So, whether you’re cutting back on caffeine or want to enjoy an evening cup without sacrificing sleep, we have some research to encourage your indulgence in decaf and sway those who have never considered it before.
1. The Same Deliciousness, But Less Jitters
The major draw towards decaf is that it tastes wonderful but gives you fewer jitters because it has a lower caffeine content. Most decaf options have had about 97% of the caffeine removed. So, most decaf still has 5 to 7 mg of caffeine per 12 oz (unless it has gone through the Swiss Water® Process which we’ll talk about later). However, that is a huge difference from the 180 to 200 mg of caffeine found within a regular 12oz cup.
With decaf, you don’t have to choose between your love for coffee and a good night’s sleep. In addition, it is less likely to cause an upset stomach or increased heart rate, among other things, which makes it ideal for someone with caffeine sensitivities.
2. Packed with Health Benefits
Did you know that decaf contains nearly the same amount of antioxidants as regular coffee? The more you know, right? These antioxidants can help combat inflammation, improve heart health, and even protect your cells from damage.
In addition, when decaf beans become decaffeinated through the Swiss Water® Process instead of the traditional chemical process, the water-soluble caffeine is extracted while the taste is undisturbed. This process extracts 99.9% of the caffeine and is considered the healthiest process for decaffeination. Thankfully, our decaf beans have gone through this process. Click here to learn a bit more.
3. Great for New Coffee Drinkers
If you’re new to the coffee train, decaf can be a fantastic first option. Options like our Decaf Cold Brew or our Jamaican Me Crazy® beans offer all the complex flavors of a fine cup without the background noise of caffeine. It’s a gentle introduction to the world of coffee, perfect for savoring the taste and aroma.
4. Supports Hydration Goals
There are many people who can drink coffee first thing in the morning. The kicker? They must eat something with it or drink a tiny amount because it causes an upset stomach AND can be a mild diuretic. We die-hard coffee fans overlook this widely known effect because we need that first sip. Something worth noting, however, is that caffeine can create both the laxative and diuretic effect (the unpopular truth). For this reason, a lower caffeine option, like decaf coffee, can be gentler on the stomach and helps you stay hydrated throughout the day. It’s a flavorful alternative to water while still keeping you on track with hydration. That is what we call a win-win!
5. Versatility for Every Occasion
Hot drinks, iced drinks, and everything in between—decaf can serve every purpose. That means you can get the same great taste without the massive amount of caffeine. Whether it’s a TVC decaf chocolate raspberry latte, an iced mocha, or our famous cold brew, you can enjoy the goodness in every cup.
